Australian Bridie O’Donnell will make an attempt on Women’s UCI Hour Record on January 22

Australian cyclist Bridie O’Donnell will attempt to break the Women’s UCI Hour Record at the beginning of next year. Scheduled for January 22, her attempt will be part of the Santos Tour Down Under week at the Super-Drome in Adelaide, Australia. O’Donnell will be proudly supported in her attempt by power2max, and will be using the all new Type S for track with Rotor 3d+ CRANKS for the attempt.

O’Donnell’s challenge will come just four months after American Molly Shaffer Van Houweling set the new mark of 46.273km in Aguascalientes, Mexico. In September this year, Van Houweling rode 208 metres further than the previous mark of 46.065km, established in 2003 by Dutch rider Leontien Zijlaard-van Moorsel in Mexico City. Bridie O’Donnell has represented Australia at three UCI Road World Championships and made twelve podium appearances at Australian and Oceania Championships in the past decade. The 41-year-old physician has been training for the attempt for twelve months, ever since the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) modernized and simplified the regulations for the record by authorising the use of bikes that comply with the regulations for endurance track events.
“The renewed interest and motivation surrounding the UCI Hour Record continues into 2016,” said UCI
President Brian Cookson.

“Molly Shaffer Van Houweling set a difficult target in September and it will be very interesting to see if that can be beaten next January.”
“The fact that this new attempt coincides with our opening event of the 2016 UCI WorldTour, the Santos Tour Down Under in Australia, will add to the excitement of this first attempt of the year on the Women’s UCI Hour Record.”
“It’s going to be a massive challenge now that Molly (Shaffer Van Houweling) has set a new world mark of 46.273kms, but I believe I’m on target and the team around me has supported and encouraged me to no end,” said Bridie O’Donnell.

“Everything’s going to plan, and I’m hoping for a big crowd in Adelaide as it’s being staged during the Santos Tour Down Under.”

The Australian track sprint team headed by Anna Meares, Stephanie Morton and Matt Glaetzer will race at Adelaide’s Super Dome prior to the attempt as part of their preparation for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

power2max 5th birthday price drop!

28 Aug 2015 / 0 Comments / in News/by adminaus

It was five years ago today that Power2max launched its first generation of power meters, the Classic, at Eurobike in Friedrichshafen. Our mission then, as it is now, was to offer “high-quality power meters at amateur-prices”.

Unwavering on our mission to do this, the power2max team continued to refine and innovate. In 2013 this led to the release of the second generation of power meters, the Type S.

With endorsements from UCI World Tour Teams Movistar and Etixx-Quickstep, and ProContinental Teams Bora-Argon 18 and Bardiani Greenteam, power2max has seen the highest level of competition, and stood up to the ultimate testing ground that is professional cycling. Whether its flying up and down the Champs Elysee, trekking across a continent, or winning a local club A grade race, power2max can deliver!

And now, it’s time for power2max to deliver once again to you, the customer! To celebrate our 5th birthday, power2max will be offering a new pricing structure that will bring our powermeters to you at a more affordable price that we began with back in 2010!

“When we started in 2010, we still had to prove that we could keep our word in terms of function, precision, reliability and easy handling. Following the positive feedback of our customers, we have managed to do just that,” says Julia Leenders, Sales and Marketing Manager at power2max.

“Regarding our prices, we started with the entry level price of $999 five years ago. With the launch of the Type S in 2013, we had to depart from this price level for some time. However, we were still convinced that a power2max should be available for our original price, so our aim was to return to that 2010 price point. It is a pleasure to announce that we have returned, and that we’re celebrating our fifth birthday by offering new and better prices of the Type S power meter to our customers.”

The power2max Type S power meter with FSA Gossamer crank is now available from $999. On the road with power for under $1000.

52,937 km – Alex Dowsett breaks World Hour Record in Manchester

07 May 2015 / 0 Comments / in News/by adminaus

At the beginning, there was the question: Can he do it and can he beat Rohan?

HE DID IT!

On the 2nd of May, Alex Dowsett set a new UCI World Hour Record at Manchester Velodrome:

52,937 km!

perfecthour_warmupperfecthour_bikeperfecthour_preparation

The crowed sheered the  Movistar Rider when he entered the wooden oval of Manchester on his Canyon Speedmax WHR. 12:59 h – the time had come. Those spectators, sponsors and staff members who managed to stay relaxes until then, must had become excited at that moment – as there was absolute silence just before the start.

10….9…. 5…3…1….GO! 1 pm – 60 Minutes against the clock – with the plan not to beat his contender Rohan Dennis (BMC) from the beginning, but to set the new record during the last 15 minutes. An evenly paced and progressive racing strategy!

So, Alex Dowsett had to wait for 45 minutes… Temporarily, he was up to 9 seconds behind Rohan, comparing the 1:1 (real time) performance.

The crowd wondered: Would that plan work?

YES, it worked. The Movistar Head Coach Mikel Zabala developed a perfect plan for Dowsett’s Hour Record. As Rohan Dennis had lost some speed during the last 15 minutes, the plan was to speed up during the last 15 minutes. After 179 rounds he had already been on the record course.

At 2pm, the time stopped with a new Hour Record of 52,937 km! Dowsett beat Dennis by 476 m!

The audience went delirious and celebrated their hero of the Manchester Velodrome – the new UCI Hour Record Holder!

During the press conference after the record attempt, Dowsett committed that at first, he did not like very much the plan of his coaches: to wait 45 minutes to beat Rohan’s record. From time to time he was a bit too enthusiastic so that his coaches had to slow him down. However Alex knew that success is a matter of trust. He trusted in the plan of his coaches, he trusted his team and he had trust in his material: the special Endura Race Suit, his Canyon Speedmax WHR with Campagnolo parts and his power2max Type S Campagnolo 2015 power meter as well as in the aerodynamic optimization by drag2zero!

At the end, his #PerfectHour was a #PerfectPerformance with an unbelievable new World Hour Record!

Congratulations, Alex Dowsett! power2max is so proud of you. We are very happy to have been part of your Hour Record Team and so happy that your power2max Type S power meter was your “permanent training partner” while preparing for your new WORLD RECORD!

Alex Dowsett’s #PerfectHour – 02.05.2015 in Manchester

27 Apr 2015 / 0 Comments / in News/by adminaus

The Brit Alex Dowsett of Team Movistar will challenge the Hour Record at Manchester Velodrome on the 2nd of May. He will try to beat the current record of 52,491 km, set by Rohan Dennis (BMC) in Grenchen (Switzerland) on the 8th of February 2015.

Dowsett already wanted to challenge the Hour Record at the end of January, but could not stick to his initial plan because of a crash during a training session resulting in a broken collarbone.

However, the Movistar rider stayed calm and kept his focus, so that only a few days after his surgery, he was back on the bike again and presents himself in a fantastic shape for the attempt.

Fighting against the clock, every watt counts, so until recently Dowsett’s hour record team was improving the material and the aerodynamics at Drag2Zero Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 wind tunnel in Brackley.

At the 2nd of May, Alex Dowsett has to “feel the right pace”, as he is not allowed to use a bike computer showing him speed and power during the record attempt. The more important it was for him to train with his power2max Type S and to analyse his power data in order to internalize the feeling fort he right pace.

Dowsett will challenge the record on his Canyon Speedmax WHR, especially developed for the Hour Record. The Speedmax WHR is equipped with a Campagnolo wheel set, with Continental Tires and the power2max Type S Campagnolo 2015.
